To most people retirement is relaxing on the beach. Or watching the grandkids. But for Maria Stump retirement was starting a new business. After 35 years of working for someone else she decided to take the leap and open Diamondback Boots in Corpus Christi, TX.
Having been in the business for so long Maria knew the industry well and having the support of her family and former employers made the transition smooth and nearly painless. Being a woman in business always has its challenges. Maria spent decades gaining the trust of brand reps and building a reputation. Diamondback Boots has now been open for 6 years and is continuing to grow.
What’s the secret to her success? Being honest and fair and selling quality goods. Maria wants everyone who walks into her store to feel at home and feel like their hard-earned money is being spent on quality products. She doesn’t care if a customer tracks mud through the store or if they want to sit on one of her tailgate benches and chat for a while. Her customers are loyal and appreciate her small family-owned business.
