Clontarf Foundation

Steel Blue is a proud sponsor of the Clontarf Foundation, which exists to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, and by doing so, equips them to participate more meaningfully in society.
This month (April) we were pleased to host a team of young male students from the Clontarf Foundation.
The Clontarf Foundation increases school attendance rates of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander boys that are participating in the program. The foundation keeps these young men within the education system until they finish Year 12, and then assists by placing them into suitable employment.
The students that visited our Steel Blue head office and manufacturing facility were briefed on the range of roles that exist within the Steel Blue team, from the traditional Boot Maker role, to warehousing, logistics, sales and marketing. The aim was to inspire and provide information about their possible future career choices. The Steel Blue team were inspired by the successes of the students so far and their dedication to school and career paths for employment once they graduate.
Success at the Clontarf Foundation is measured by the extent to which boys graduating from the programme either find jobs and keep them, or continue in further education. The 575 young men who completed Year 12 in 2018 have embarked on the next stage of their journey – employment and/or further education or training.
As at May 2019, 419 of these students continue to be employed or are undertaking further study. The Clontarf Foundation will continue to support those who are working or studying, while at the same time, will keep working with the 156 jobseekers to help them find employment.
