What a Pair campaign raises $10,000 for breast cancer charities

Breast cancer WA Campaign - Steel blue

Steel Blue customers across Australia raised $7,500 in the past month, through our What a Pair campaign, to support breast cancer charity Breast Cancer Care WA.

Steel Blue donates $10 from every pair of our special pink and purple boots to the charity, but throughout May 2023, we donated an extra $5 every time a customer tagged a friend in the comments section of our What a Pair social media advertisements, adding to the over $1.8m raised to date.

The campaign resulted in 81 shares, more than 1,500 reactions and over 1,000 people being tagged by their friends and loved ones, ensuring our vital reminder to regularly check your breasts reached more than 175,000 people during the month.

The What a Pair campaign was also run in New Zealand, where over 800 people were tagged, reaching more than 130,000 people and raising $2,500 for local breast cancer charity Sweet Louise.

Thank you for your support

Steel Blue co-founder Ross Fitzgerald thanked Australians for getting behind the What a Pair campaign.

“The amount of $7,500 raised during the campaign will enable Breast Cancer Care WA to support around 10 clients with a combination of nursing and counselling over the course of their treatment which is a great result” he said.

“Steel Blue has a long relationship with Breast Cancer Care, having raised more than $1.8 million for the charity. While the What A Pair campaign is over for this year, fundraising through the sale of our 512761 Southern Cross® pink and purple boots continues all year round.”

One in seven Australian women will be affected by breast cancer

According to National Breast Cancer Foundation figures, about 57 Australians are diagnosed with breast cancer every day. Nearly three of those people will be young women, under 40. Close to one in 600 Australian men will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The What a Pair campaign was designed to encourage Australians to check their breasts regularly for lumps and abnormalities.

“We also know early detection of breast cancer is incredibly important. That’s why Steel Blue includes a shower tag, that explains how to conduct a breast self-check, in every box of our pink and purple work boots,” Mr Fitzgerald said.

Breast Cancer Care WA provides support to 1,400 families a year and every $1 donated provides $4.43 worth of social value to Australians.

You can still share our self-check guide to your social media channels to help spread the message. Check out our 512761 Southern Cross® Zip pink and purple boots at your local Steel Blue stockist here.
