What a Pair campaign raises $10,000 for breast cancer charities
Steel Blue customers across New Zealand raised an additional $2,500 in the past month to support breast cancer charity Sweet Louise, through the What a Pair campaign.
Steel Blue donates $10 from every pair of our special pink boots to the charity, but throughout May 2023, we donated an extra $5 every time a customer tagged a friend in the comments section of our What a Pair social media advertisements.
The campaign resulted in more than 500 reactions and 42 shares to friends and loved ones, ensuring our vital reminder to regularly check your breasts reached more than 130,000 people during the month.
The What a Pair campaign was also run in Australia, where over 1,000 people were tagged, reaching more than 175,000 people, and raising $7,500 for local breast cancer charity Breast Cancer Care WA.
Thank you for supporting What a Pair
Steel Blue co-founder Ross Fitzgerald thanked New Zealanders for getting behind the What a Pair campaign.
“It costs Sweet Louise around $1,500 to support someone with breast cancer for a whole year, including one-to-one support, access to meetings and vouchers for practical help like meal deliveries or help around the home,” he said. “$2,500 can help buy groceries and petrol for 12 families, at a time when a terminal cancer diagnosis may well have left them struggling to make ends meet.”
“So, the funds raised by Steel Blue customers in New Zealand will have an important and lasting impact for women with breast cancer and their families.”
Fundraising through the sale of our 512761 Southern Cross® Zip Pink boots continues all year round as $10 from the sale of each pair of these brightly coloured boots in NZ goes to the charity.
One in nine NZ women will be affected by breast cancer
Breast cancer is the most common cancer among New Zealand women with one in nine NZ women affected by breast cancer in their lifetime. Six percent of all breast cancer diagnoses are in young women, under 40, and on average 25 men are diagnosed with breast cancer in NZ every year.
“We also know early detection of breast cancer is incredibly important,” Mr Fitzgerald said. “That’s why Steel Blue includes a shower tag, that explains how to conduct a breast self-check, in every box of our work boots.”
Sweet Louise currently supports 760 women and their families across New Zealand by providing one-to-one emotional and practical support.
You can still share our self-check guide to your social media channels to help spread the message. Check out our 512761 Southern Cross® Zip pink boots at local Steel Blue stockist here.
